FORENSIC

Evidence Photography, or Forensic Photography, is a specialized field focused on capturing images of relevant areas for legal purposes. These photographs are utilized in lawsuits or civil complaints to highlight key areas of interest. Due to the nature of the type of photography, I can’t show examples. Every lawsuit and forensic capture is different, and confidentiality is key.

There are various kinds of Evidence Photography I can do for different law firms and clients:

✔ Property Line Disputes

✔ Personal injury, including tripping hazards and medical malpractice

✔ Death from blunt force trauma

✔ General Contractor Litigation

✔ Commercial Contract dispute

✔ Insurance Claims

✔ Product Liability

✔ Theft

✔ Incomplete or Improper work

✔ Water Damage

✔ Maritime Accidents

✔ Cruise Ship Injuries

✔ Wrongful Death

...and more!

Evidence photography is NOT the same as crime scene photography for law enforcement. Law enforcement has special criteria for photographing active crime scenes. If you need to capture the property line where your neighbor built their new fence, or if you need to document the shoddy construction of a house or kitchen, you need evidence photos. Evidence photos allow you to capture the scene of the dispute accurately and present properly exposed photos in court.

I have photographed kitchens to show what they looked like after a contractor left. I have also photographed a basement that had water issues after construction. Additionally, I have photographed a property line where a contractor built a wall over town set back specifications. I have even photographed cases involving theft to show the court where the apparent theft took place. In personal injury photography, you need photographs of the steps in which someone tripped and fell to show the area is damaged, which may have been what created the fall or injury.

The photos I take are curated to meet the specific requirements for each case. They are a true and accurate representation of the area you are looking to present. Hiring an independent photographer to capture the area of interest removes speculation that the images were digitally altered. Independent photographers remove the conflict of interest in a case. The only adjustments made to photos for evidence should be slight lighting and shadow adjustments to see the area of interest. Images can also be cropped, but there is no digital manipulation done to alter the area photographed. The difference is that with digital manipulation, you have added or removed items to the image. My images are only adjusted for lighting to clearly show the area of interest.

I can print photos for a courtroom as well as supply properly labeled digital copies. I can help mark items in a sequential order, by date, time, or any other need for your client. As well as taking images for 1:1 comparison and to scale.

Your company's privacy is of the utmost importance. I will not share or talk about your client's specific needs or photos. I maintain all photos on a secure server. All photos are securely stored on a backup cloud and two in-house hard drives. They are delivered to the client via a USB flash drive and uploaded to either Google Drive or Dropbox for easy access. Clients receive all images captured, provided in sequential order, along with the original SD card from the camera. I ensure that images are never outsourced or stored off-site by third parties, and expedited delivery is available for urgent needs. Additionally, you will receive a photo management document outlining the total number of files, the starting and ending file numbers, and any notable anomalies observed in the photos. While I maintain that I clean my cameras before each shoot, changing lenses can allow dust to get in on the sensor, and those anomalies will be documented with the client.

I am familiar with the client privacy needs as I come from a family of lawyers and know that the privacy of this work is of the utmost importance.

I have over 20 years of experience and have photographed evidence for court cases throughout Massachusetts and New England. I am an independent photographer not affiliated with any state or local law enforcement. I have over 20 years of experience photographing people, places, and products. I am a certified photographer in Digital Crime Scene Photography from Florida International University‘s Global Forensic and Justice Center. I understand that a fair and accurate representation of your case is important to you and your client. I know direct flash is not always the best way to capture an area that needs to be shown. Sometimes you need to create shadows to show an indentation or impression. With a skilled photographer in Forensic photography, I have the skills and equipment to handle things from an airplane to a car’s interior. All photos are color corrected for the ambient light at the scene.

The rate for evidence or forensic photography is $600 per hour with a one-hour minimum, which includes all images as part of the fee. There is a travel fee for some locations and a possible second photographer fee, depending on your project needs.
