(359 High St, New Shoreham, RI 02807) - The Atlantic Inn is up on a hill overlooking the island below. It's one of the best views on the island to host your wedding or corporate retreat. The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for those searching for the destination wedding island feel without going to the Caribbean. The porch has beautiful wicker chairs, and if you choose to host your event outside to take advantage of the stunning views there is a tent so you and your guests can be protected from the elements, should you need it! The Inn has full-service wedding planning services with connections to florists (such as La Bella Rose Flowers, and Painted Rock Flowers) The venue has a unique vibe not found in other places on the Islands.
The Inn has 21 rooms which makes it perfect for smaller weddings and removes the need for lodging.
To get to Block Island you need to take a ferry (or fly). The ferries leave from Pt. Judith in Rhode Island, Newport, Rhode Island, and Fall River in Massachusetts. If you are coming from Long Island, you need to take Long Island and Block Island connect via Cross Sound Ferry from Orient Point, and transfer to the Block Island Express in New London.
The Ferry can at times be tricky to get to and from the island. If it's too windy or bad weather, they have to shut the ferries down. This can be problematic if a vendor didn't anticipate weather issues so it's best to leave a day or two before your event. Traveling on the day of the event is NOT recommended.
Should I take a car to Block Island?
It all depends on where you are going or staying. I have taken my car over so I can get to other parts of the island easier. Just know that if you are staying at one of the hotels right off the ferry, parking is hard to find. Some of the outskirt hotels and inns you can park at with no issue. Just know, there are plenty of cabs, bikes, and scooters to zip around this island.
How big is Block Island?
Block Island, is about 109 sq miles around, 6 miles long, and 3.5 miles wide. It's not a big island and you can probably explore the entire thing in a long weekend and leave having seen it all.
No matter where on Block Island you go, it is a fabulous and special place with many special venues to host your wedding or corporate outing.
What is there to see on the Island?
First and foremost since it's a summer vacation spot in New England, the beaches are at the top of the list. With almost 20 beaches on the island, you can have your secluded or your people-watching! If you are into bird watching, Block Island is home to many varieties of Birds, from a Seagull population to over 70 different songbirds. While there aren't marked trails on the island for hiking you can scope out the dunes and watch for your favorite critter!
