I had the amazing pleasure of shooting Brian and Melissa on Block Island for their wedding. I love Block Island for so many reasons, and it makes SUCH a great destination wedding location! I grew up summering on the Cape, and I have such a love for all things ocean and beach. Block Island is a hidden secret off the coast of Rhode Island. It’s their Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard. To me, and I could be wrong, it seems less crowded than Nantucket and, a lot less commercial than Martha’s Vineyard.
It’s a slow sleepy little Island that reminds me of Bermuda. If you haven’t been to Block Island, I have to encourage you to GO! It’s so close, you can even make a day trip out of it.

I took a different approach to this blog post, because I could have gone ON AND ON about this wedding. It was a 3 day event, that started with a rehearsal dinner and ended with a Sunday Brunch.
Favorite part of your wedding? It had to have been when we sat down together outside the Inn in the adirondack chairs, and just talked for a minute and took everything in. It was a beautiful moment where we just got to enjoy everything we did to make this day amazing.
How you chose the Atlantic inn?
First, it has a view that would make your jaw drop. We spent many evenings watching the sun go down from the porch of the Atlantic Inn and its spectacular. Secondly, we are big time foodies and didn’t want the run of the mill catered event. If the Atlantic Inn has one thing they excel in, I would say it is food and service. Brad and Anne are amazing and their staff are so pleasant and accommodating. We really couldn’t have picked a better venue. And given the choice, this was the only one I would have wanted.
Any special details you added into the wedding that had meaning?
We customized everything around our relationship. From the music to the ceremony to the local bought items in the guests welcome bags, even the food our guests ate, we hand picked everything. All of our favorites were on display for 3 days of celebration.
We also took a moment during our ceremony to honor the family that were no longer with us and with so many passing in the more recent years, it meant a lot to feel that they were there with us somehow.
The whole long weekend was perfect. And I realize that every bride says that, but I truly believe it and feel so lucky to have had such a wonderful experience. Our family and friends were able to enjoy our quaint little see it in the most incredible way possible, through the eyes of a couple that fell in love with it. And we are beyond blessed to have such amazing people in our lives.
Mel
What I loved about the wedding was the amount of detail Melissa put into the entire event. I told her she missed her calling as a model and event planner. The guests who came to this event were true friends and family, and you could tell everyone was so happy to be there! How could you not be? These two people are so in love and so sweet. I loved chatting with the groom, Brian, throughout the three-day weekend. Melissa was always so gracious making sure we (the photographers) were well hydrated and fed. I always feel horrible when clients fuss over us, but it’s just the type of people they are. They spent a great deal of time looking out for others to make sure everyone was having a good time! I hope to shoot many more Block Island Weddings with couples just like them. I’ll have to post more photos of this event, because it really was incredible!
