Surprise Proposals can happen anywhere at any time, but they are special when they are on the beach in North Falmouth, Massachusetts, one of Cape Cod's most beloved shorelines. This surprise proposal unfolded along the shore of Buzzards Bay, where warm, clear waters make it a summertime favorite for locals and visitors alike. As the sun dipped low, the couple stood at the water's edge, framed by the wide, curving beach that has drawn generations of families and romantics to this stretch of Falmouth coastline.
One of the most famous beaches in Falmouth is Old Silver Beach, one of the biggest draws to Falmouth!
Old Silver Beach offers a backdrop unlike any other on the Cape. On a clear day, the view stretches across the bay to Marion, Mattapoisett, and West Island, with the Cleveland Ledge Lighthouse marking the horizon — a quietly romantic detail that adds depth to any proposal photo taken here. The beach is known for its soft white sand, calm water, and vibrant sunsets that glow across Buzzards Bay, making the golden hour especially magical for capturing a surprise engagement.
A fun fact about Falmouth and North Falmouth is that while it’s a town, it’s not your typical town. It’s spread out, and in North Falmouth, bathrooms are hard to come by! The local gas stations are small and don’t have any, and the local Dunkin' Donuts is also a no-go!
While Bathrooms might be hard to find, unlike many of Cape Cod's beaches, which tend to be rocky, Old Silver Beach is notably clean, wide, and easy to walk, benefiting from unusually warm water carried in by an ocean current — a small but meaningful detail for a barefoot walk down the sand right before getting down on one knee.
Falmouth is easily accessible from both the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges, but is closer to the Bourne Bridge. You can take the Cape Cod Central Railroad's Dinner Train through North Falmouth. The dinner train provides a four-course meal and spectacular views.
For accommodations in Falmouth its not inexpensive. Prices in the summer range from $180-900 a night, with motels being the lower-cost option. Some of the hotel options in Falmouth are:
To get to Falmouth from Boston, you want to come down Route 3 or 24 from the city.
From the South, you want to take 195 to 495.
Falmouth is best to visit in the summer, but it has wonderful fall options as well
