Black and White Lifestyle Family Photos Boston

This has to be one of the best lifestyle family photos I have taken.  The mom wanted the typical newborn photos with the props and the blankets. We ended up doing a mix of different types of photos.

What are the different types of Newborn photos?

For newborn photography you can have

-formal portraits

-candid portraits

-lifestyle portraits

-outdoor portraits.

Typically I do lifestyle portraits where you see the family interacting with the baby.  On this day we did both formal photos and lifestyle photos.  This photo was shot with a big window in front of everyone and they held the baby and looked at him.  I love this photo because it shows how happy everyone is with the new baby.    I love that its in black and white and that the baby was sleeping.

What is the best time to get a newborn photo?

This depends on when you mean "time".  If you mean time of day, whenever the baby is sleeping!   If you mean time after the baby is born, I recommend between 7-10 days.  You don't want to go much longer because the baby isn't as sleepy.  The baby is also much more alert and you really just want to get the baby as calm and as sleepy as possible.

Can you recommend the type of clothes for a newborn shoot?

I recommend you keep it simple.  You don't want to but a newborn in a crazy outfit.  Personally I really like naked babies, swaddled, with bear feet.  Newborn babies are SO tiny, you don't want to have to fuss with new buttons or snaps.  On the flip side babies tend to spit up and poop a LOT so you just should keep it simple.  If you are a new mom, try and relax.  Not only have I been a photographer for 15 years, I am the mom to 3 beautiful children for the last 8 years.  I have seen it all! I have done it all!  Babies can be super scary, but for a photography shoot, you want to bring patients and understanding.  These are memories you are making.
