Being local a local photographer in Wakefield Massachusetts gives me the great opportunity to explore and find wonderful areas to take engagement and wedding photos. One area of Wakefield that is pretty well known is the Wakefield Lake. While it’s known as the Wakefield Lake its real name is Lake Quannapowitt, and its former name was Reading Pond! Its a lake that provides kayaking, canoeing sailing, and even paddle boarding. You can rent those things right on the shore of the Lake on the gazebo side. One thing to note is while you can do a lot of water activities ON the Lake, swimming is NOT allowed. Back in the 1970s they used to allow seaplanes to land on the water, but due to environmental concerns, it was no longer allowed.
While one of the questions you often hear is, is the lake polluted? Yes and no. It has higher levels of naturally occurring metals. Back in the day, the lake had a lot of weeds. To control the weeds, there was a lot of copper poured into the lake. While copper is naturally occurring the building of roads gave access to other elements to enter the Lake, making it unsafe to swim. Lake Quannapowitt is located just outside the town center and to the south of Reading Center, off 129. It’s a wonderful venue to take photos and to run around. Each year they host a variety of events on the town green. Wakefield has many other wonderful areas for a photographer to work with. Crystal Lake is also a venue that has given Wakefield great backdrops for engagement photos and family portraits.
